At Shadow Karate Squad, we combine traditional karate values with modern teaching methods to develop confident, disciplined and respectful martial artists. Sport clothing such as T-shirt and jogging bottoms are most suitable for training in Karate. No jewellry or metal to be worn inside the Dojo for safety reasons. Classes are conducted in bare feet. Medical socks may be worn by students with any foot conditions. Bring a non-fizzy drink in a sport bottle.

None during your trial period. Karate suits are available to purchase. Hand mitts, foot pads and gum shields are required before your first grading. More optional equipment is available (usually for higher grades).

Yes — we offer a free trial class for all new students. This gives your child (or you) the opportunity to experience our training environment, meet the instructors, and see if the club is the right fit before committing. We operate on a monthly membership basis. This ensures consistency in training and steady progress through our structured programme. Students are assessed regularly during class, and when they consistently meet the required standard, they are invited to grade. Gradings typically take place every 3–6 months, depending on the student’s attendance, effort, skill development, and attitude. Progression is never rushed — strong foundations are essential. Each grading is an opportunity for students to: • Demonstrate their techniques • Show improved focus and discipline • Build confidence under structured assessment There is a grading fee, which covers the examination, certification, and new belt upon successful completion. We ensure students are fully prepared before being put forward, so they feel confident and supported on the day.
